Trezor.io/start® - Starting Up Your Device

Welcome to Trezor

Welcome to your Trezor hardware wallet! Trezor is one of the most trusted devices to secure your cryptocurrency, ensuring that your assets are protected from hacking, theft, and loss. This guide will take you through the steps to set up your Trezor device and get it ready for use. Please read through the instructions carefully to secure your crypto assets effectively.

Step 1: Unbox Your Trezor

When you receive your Trezor device, it will come in a sealed box. Inside the box, you will find your Trezor hardware wallet, a USB cable, and a recovery seed card. The recovery seed card contains 24 words, which are crucial for restoring your wallet if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. Do not store these words on your computer or online!

Tip: Always store your recovery seed in a secure, offline location such as a safe or a fireproof box. It’s the only way to recover your wallet if something happens to your device.

Step 2: Connect Your Trezor Device

To begin the setup, connect your Trezor device to your computer using the provided USB cable. Make sure you're using a secure and trusted computer to avoid potential risks. Once connected, visit the official trezor.io/start® website. The website will automatically detect your device and guide you through the setup process.

Step 3: Install Trezor Software

You will be prompted to install Trezor Suite, the official desktop application for managing your Trezor device. Trezor Suite allows you to access, manage, and send your cryptocurrency securely. Alternatively, you can use Trezor Bridge, which is a browser-based tool to communicate with your Trezor device. However, it’s recommended to use Trezor Suite for a more secure and feature-rich experience.

Reminder: Always download software from the official Trezor website to avoid malicious software or phishing attacks.

Step 4: Set Up Your PIN Code

After installing the software, you will be prompted to create a PIN code for your Trezor device. The PIN is an additional layer of protection that prevents unauthorized access to your device. Choose a PIN that is difficult for others to guess but still memorable for you.

Step 5: Write Down Your Recovery Seed

Your next step is to write down your recovery seed, which consists of 24 words. These words will allow you to recover your wallet in case your Trezor device is lost or damaged. Write down these words on paper and store them in a safe, offline location. If someone gains access to your recovery seed, they will be able to access your wallet and funds.

Warning: Never store your recovery seed digitally, such as in email or on cloud storage. Only physical copies are secure.

Step 6: Confirm Your Recovery Seed

After writing down your recovery seed, your Trezor device will prompt you to confirm it by entering a few of the words. This ensures that you have written down the seed correctly. Double-check your entries to make sure everything is accurate before moving on to the next step.

Step 7: Complete the Setup

Once you’ve confirmed your recovery seed, your Trezor device setup will be complete! You can now use it to securely store, send, and receive cryptocurrency. You can add your favorite cryptocurrency accounts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.) to your Trezor device and manage them through Trezor Suite.

Security Tip: Always ensure that you are using the latest version of the firmware on your Trezor device to protect against vulnerabilities and keep your device up to date.

Step 8: Set Up Your Cryptocurrency Accounts

After completing the initial setup, you can now set up individual cryptocurrency accounts on your Trezor device. Trezor supports a variety of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and many others. Simply choose the type of account you want to create and follow the instructions provided by Trezor Suite.

Managing Your Cryptocurrency with Trezor

Trezor allows you to manage your cryptocurrency securely. You can send and receive funds, check your balances, and track transaction history directly from Trezor Suite. When sending funds, always double-check the address to avoid sending crypto to the wrong address. Trezor’s built-in security ensures that your private keys never leave the device, keeping your funds safe.

Important: Always verify the receiving address on your Trezor device before confirming a transaction. This ensures that no one has tampered with the address on your computer or browser.

Step 9: Regularly Update Your Trezor Device

It is essential to keep your Trezor device's firmware up to date. Firmware updates improve security, add new features, and help prevent any potential exploits. You can check for updates directly from the Trezor Suite application, which will notify you when a new update is available.

Additional Security Measures

To further secure your cryptocurrency, consider using a strong passphrase in addition to your PIN and recovery seed. A passphrase is an additional layer of protection that encrypts your wallet with a secret phrase. Even if someone gains access to your device and PIN, they will not be able to access your funds without the passphrase.

Tip: If you use a passphrase, make sure it is unique and stored securely. It can be added at the time of wallet creation or later through Trezor Suite.
